Q.Can I exercise while pregnant, and what are the benefits?

A. Yes! First we like have our clients to get a doctors clearance before starting an exercise program. It is proven that women, who exercise while being pregnant at least three times per week, will feel better, reduce constipation, fewer leg cramps and a quicker return to pre-pregnancy weight when compared to women who do not exercise (ACOG, 2002).

  1. Exercise can help decrease or prevent:
    1. excessive weight gain & post partum depression
    2. gestational diabetes, blood pressure, and deep venous thrombosis
    3. Maternal discomforts:

Q.How will exercising during pregnancy help my baby?

A. There are three very good reasons why exercising while pregnant will help your baby, otherwise known as Enhancement of Feto-Protective Mechanisms.

  1. Extra increase in maternal blood volume
  2. Improved growth and function of the placenta
  3. Increased ability to dissipate heat (Clapp 2002)
